The Land of Reverie/Xứ Sở Miên Man

A children’s book for all ages, The Land of Reverie/Xứ Sở Miên Man by author Jun Phạm (Phạm Duy Thuận) is a whimsical tale following a father who goes on a journey through a land his daughter dreams up, in order to find and save her. It at once highlights the boundless power of naiveté, the unconditional warmth of chosen families, and the beauty behind traditional Vietnamese art forms at risk of being left behind by technological innovations. What touches us most, and prompts our miniature model, is the book’s description of a moon floating inside a teapot: a moon where chú Cuội, a popular Vietnamese mythological character, resides. In honoring the child-like wonder with which the author has created this setting, we have chosen to approach all aspects of this model by hand and sheer imagination.
